Graacher Himmelreich Auslese 1964
Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm, Mosel
For centuries the Prüm family has been making wine in Wehlen, at the banks of the Mosel river. The estate was officially founded in 1911 by Johann Josef Prüm. 1920 marks an important year as his brother Sebastian Prüm took over and JJ Prüm produced his first sweet Auslese wine. From this moment onwards, Prüm quickly established its grand reputation.
JJ Prüm’s rieslings are top-notch, reputed for their balance and ageworthiness. They are highly sought-after and fare well at auctions. The estate owns several grand cru vineyards, with a majority in the Wehlener-Sonnenuhr plot, and produces several riesling styles, including Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein.
The Grosse Lage ‘Himmelreich’ or ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ vineyard is steep with a terroir of blue slate and battered clay. This composition ensures ageability and superb minerality.
Vosne-Romanée 2014
Domaine Jean Grivot, Vosne-Romanée
On the eve of the French Revolution, the Grivot family left Jura for Vosne-Romanée. Jean Grivot took over the reins of the domaine in 1955 and from 1959 onwards bottled and sold his own wines, making it one of the frontrunners in Burgundy to do so. Jean’s son Etienne entered the business in 1982 and manages the cellars and vineyards since 1987. Later on his daughter Mathilde brought new impulses to the domaine.
Domaine Jean Grivot owns 15 hectares of plots in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and grand cru vineyards Echézeaux, Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot. Except for a Bourgogne Blanc, all other wines Grivot produces are reds.
