Ben Glaetzer is one of the most exciting young winemakers. He is part of a wine dynasty, like many Barossa producers, heralds from a progeny of German immigrants arriving in the late 19th Century. The vines for his ‘Anaperenna’ 2018 are situated in a small and highly celebrated sub-region of the Barossa Valley: Ebenezer. Their vines are ancient, producing low yields of concentrated and healthy fruit from vines that range from 80 to 130 years. Barossa also happens to be one of the last bastions of old vines which remain largely unaffected by the scourge of Phylloxera.

This cuvée is a seamless fusion of the two varieties Shiraz (82%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (18%). The wine matured on the lees for sixteen months in new barrels, which consisted mainly of French oak and a small percentage American oak. The wine was finally bottled unfiltered. The taste is voluptuous, opulent and yet refined, with a very long and satisfying finish. A wine that will mature extremely well with long-term cellaring up to 20 years.

René Dürrbach purchased this estate and farmhouse in Saint-Etienne-du-Grès, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, for his family in 1955, as its idyllic beauty inspired his painting. René was part of a circle of painters that included Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, and Albert Gleizes. While René had always thought the estate would be a great place to make wine, it was not until the early 1970s that his son, 23-year-old Eloi, began blasting the mountains and planting his vines. He planted Cabernet Sauvignon, which was rare outside Bordeaux. Grown here, the grape is very spicy, with notes of cinnamon and pepper; its tannins are perfectly mellowed by the region’s late-harvest Syrah.

Eloi produced his first Trévallon wine from the 1976 harvest. Then in 1991, regulations for Les Baux-de-Provence appellation were changed, with a decree that wines here could contain no more than 20 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Eloi refused to change his blend or sacrifice his quality, and Domaine de Trévallon was downgraded to a “Vin de Pays” in 1993. Undeterred, Eloi kept growing his business, cultivating a cult-like following among oenophiles that continues to this day.

Eloi Dürrbach died in 2021 and the estate, which is now run by son Antoine and his wife, has seen a sharp rise in demand and price.

The domaine, created in 2006 by Brigitte Berthelemot, extends over 15 hectares in Côte de Beaune. The soil of this grand cru is limestone and the topsoil consists of clay mixed with ‘chaillots’, the name given to flint and silica-limestone deposits. This wine comes from several plots in this area. All located halfway up the Corton hill in the municipality of Pernand-Vergelesses, facing southwest.

With a beautiful green gold color, it offers noble and complex aromas of white fruits, citrus fruits enhanced by a slightly spicy woodiness. After a mineral attack, the mouth is powerful, round and silky with great persistence.

This estate’s origins date back to the 10^th century, but the modern winery was established in 1967 when Jaime Rodríguez Salís, father of siblings Telmo and Amaia Rodríguez, purchased the vineyards at the heart of the former estate and began to make wine from the ancient, abandoned site.

Remelluri’s vineyards are located along the slopes of the Sierra de Toloño mountains in the valleys of Valderemelluri, La Granja, and Villaescusa, just above the village of Labastida in Rioja Alavesa. The vineyards here are at the highest elevation in the Rioja region with vines planted between 500 and 950 meters, south-facing, and protected from the prevailing northern winds and frost. The estate consists of more than 80 individual plots in terraced amphitheaters following the contours of the mountainside, all of which are vinified separately. It is this unique microclimate that gives the wines of Remelluri their distinct personality and character. These are mountain wines that express themselves very differently than the typical Rioja wines of the plains below. They are also naturally built to age gracefully for decades.

Although wine has been produced in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region for many centuries, it did not receive its official title until 1929. It was one of France’s very first appellations, and remains one of the most prestigious even today.

Paul Avril (1873-1962) was one of the people behind the creation of the appellation. In 1896 he started to sell his wines with the name Clos des Papes, which takes its name from one of its plots: a walled vineyard located near the ruins of the 14th Century Papal castle. Régis Avril (1901-1987) delivered wines to two presidents of France, General de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou.

This is an exceptionally rare wine! Only two older vintages have been offered for sale at auction, the 1929 and 1933. Regarded as a good year, the last time the 1937 was auctioned worldwide was in 2011, when it fetched a price of $420 SGD. Considering the excellent condition of this bottle, we are offering this piece of history for a bargain!
