Winefield’s Auctioneers
Owner Milan Veld was already a passionate wine lover for years when he founded Winefield’s Auctioneers. From his work at a leading international auction house, he found it sad that there was no room for wine, besides the artworks, watches and jewelry. Wine deserved more attention and, moreover, Milan saw that the Netherlands was increasingly developing into a wine country. The first auction consisted mainly of input from friends and acquaintances, but despite the many growing pains, the first specialized wine auction house in the Netherlands could look back on a successful first auction in 2006.
From then on, things happened quickly. The full-time job was set aside, the first employees were hired and a WSET course was offered in addition to the auction work. The expertise was in-house and the transfer of wine knowledge is the basis on which Winefield’s has grown, both as an auction house, employer and as a trainer.
Winefield’s quickly started to offer, in addition to the traditional range of old wines and the most expensive houses, a more accessible range throughout the auction. We offered an online platform for live auctions, allowing immediate bidding in order to reach an even larger audience. In this way Winefield’s quickly became the largest wine auction in the Netherlands.
Believing that Singapore would also soon develop into a real wine country, the first steps towards Asia were taken in 2009. Winefield’s became an international auction house and is now also the market leader in Singapore.
In 2017, we moved to our new location in Watergraafsmeer, where finally office, cellar, course location and auction room could be brought under one roof. An auction house with love for wine has been fully established. We hope that you will grow with us in the coming years.
Winefield’s Family
“Of all the beautiful wines I have been able to taste in the past, Château Pétrus remains one of my favorites. The 1989 has everything a wine should have in it; the complexity and aftertaste is almost impossible to describe”
“When I first drank the Mâcon-Pierreclos 'En Crazy' from Domaine Guffens-Heynen and tasted its complexity, I immediately became 'crazy' and knew that wine was my passion.”
“I find it hard to say what my favorite wine is, but there is always something magical about wines from your year of birth. Especially if you're from a year like mine; underrated in the Bordeaux and Burgundy, but a great vintage for Port. One of my highlights, however, was an imperial Clos de Lambrays 1983, so much more beautiful than expected, which I shared with my dearest friends.“
“After a bad experience as a puppy, I don't do wine anymore.“ Woof!
“On my 21st birthday my parents gave me a couple of bottles Cheval Blanc from my year of birth 1994, and I realised immediately that I was hammered down and sold!“
